Theme Problem

Hey guys,

Today i turned on my computer , it came to the log-in screen i logged in and it would not even start up unfortunately. So i put in my windows vista home DVD, and did a repair.

It Repaired and FINALLY! my computer started up great , although there was a bad side. My theme had completely changed to the OLD " windows classic " theme.

So i opened up my theme manager and tried to change it to the " Aero " theme but then when i tried to apply it this error came up.

" The theme could not be loaded because the theme service is not running "

So i knew what was going on, i had to enable the theme service.

Opened task manager > Services > Right click " Themes " > Start Service..

After trying that still the Service status remained as " STOPPED "

So i opened up ,services.msc located " Themes " , right clicked and pressed "Start" then another error came up.

" Windows Could not start the theme service on Local computer "
Error 126: The specified module could not be found .

Running out of ideas

thanks.

Hey Ann,

Thanks for writing back.

I tried " Fix It " , It claims to have fixed the problem and made the Theme Service run again.

But as i look at the services in task manager still " Stopped "

Ok, try this. Go here and download Themes.reg to your Desktop. Rightclick on it and choose Merge. Reboot and tell me if this fixed the problem. If not, try running the FixIt again. It might work this time.

And i tried FixIt one more time but it still did not manage to work.

Ok. Hit the Windows key plus r on your keyboard and type services.msc in the Run box and click ok. Scroll down to Desktop Windows Manager Session Manager and make sure the service is started and set to Automatic.

Something is not right there *PewPew*. FixIt is reporting it as disabled. Maybe there is just a little glitch. Try this, disable the service and reboot. Now set it to Automatic again and reboot one more time. Does it still show as Started and Automatic? If so, is the Themes service running now?

Ok. Let's run the System File Checker to make sure there are no damaged or missing files. Click on the Start orb and type cmd.exe in the Start Search box. Rightclick on it and choose "Run as Administrator". Once the Command Prompt opens, type "sfc /scannow" without the quotes and hit Enter. The System File Checker will start. It might take a while to complete so be patient. Reboot when it has completed and let us know if this helped.
