Laptop keeps waking up w/o openeing lid

I believe is software related because i haven't had this issue until recently.

MSi GT70 2PC Dominator
Windows 8.1
Intel i7-4810MQ 2.8 GHz
64bit OS

I ran command prompt "powercfg -lastwake" and it showed 1 history count but 0 for the source. So it didn't tell me what it was. I also ran "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" so see what CAN wake it up, and it said NONE.

I'm stumped and tired of google'ing. Thanks in advance!

Go to Device Manager (Win+X, M is the quickest way), and expand the "System devices" list. If you look through the listed devices, there should be an entry for your laptop's lid (mine is listed as "ACPI Lid"). Double-clicking this will open the properties panel for that device.

If your laptop supports waking with this particular device, there will be a "Power Management" tab available, and under that tab will be a checkbox to "Allow this device to wake the computer". If the checkbox isn't grayed out, ticking it will allow the computer to wake when the device sends a signal (in this case opening the lid). If the checkbox is grayed out, then your laptop cannot wake upon opening the lid.

I found the ACPI Lid but it didn't have a power management option. I checked everything under System Devices and none of them had it. I also checked the mouse and keyboard and they both do NOT have the check box checked. Any other ideas? Thanks for helping.

I would check the properties of all network adapters for WOL and disable it.

Also was this an upgrade to 8.1 with previous Win 7 or always had Win 8.1?

Always 8.1

What does WOL mean? Only two adapters are enabled: ethernet and wireless both unchecked to awaken device.

WOL = Wake on Link

Despite what the Power Management tab says, I always double check the advanced tab of the NIC properties to ensure the Wake features are disabled.

e.g. at the moment on my work machine, Wake up is disabled in Power Management but Wake on Magic Packet is still enabled in the Advanced tab.

ok, so i disabled "wake up on magic packet" for my ethernet adapter and my laptop was awake again this morning when i got up. The wireless and the other two adapters do not have that option to disable. Should i disable "wake on pattern match?"

I feel like it may be something else because i've never messed with any of these settings and nothing has changed with any of my network adapters.

Is there a way to find out what is actually triggering the wake? I already tried the command lines that i posted in the first post.

did you install anything lately that calls home when open or change the schedule for scans and email.

you can always do a system restore to a restore point date just prior to the problems. If it dont work, could always revert back.

No I don't think I've installed anything like that. Restore is not an option for this issue simply because of how many things I save and how many updates for software I've done. I would be losing too many weeks of work. Not just saved files but settings and program installations and i do not want to do all that again. Including installing Adobe Premier and After Effects (this happened before those programs.)

There's got to be a way to find out what's doing it, 3rd party program? Another command line I can try in DOS?

Any other ideas that doesn't involved system restore (i wouldn't even know how far to go back anyway because it's been so long i've just been dealing with it.)

Worst case scenario i have to shut it down every night but i prefer not to because i run so many programs and windows on 3 monitors, it's a pain to set them all up everyday.
