can't email since getting 8.1 ???switch to a Microsoft account

[perplexed]

When I click on an email on sites I get a box wanting me to sign in. I never use to get that . I could just click on the email and type in my message and click send.

Now it wants me to switch to a Microsoft account.
I never got that message until I got this new computer with 8.1

To check whether you're signed in with a Microsoft account

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings.
   (If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer up, click Settings, and then click Change PC settings.)
   
2. Tap or click Accounts, and then tap or click Your account.

If you're already signed in with a Microsoft account, your name and email address appear above your account picture

If you're signed in with a local account, you'll see the words Local Account below your name, along with the Connect to a Microsoft account link.

It said local account and wants me to sign in.
I don't understand why it wants me to log in to account? What account?
I don't understand why I can't eMail from clicking the clicking the contact link on sites
without signing in? I don't want a microsoft account.
