Welcome to CTH hurleyun999. This laptop may just have a corrupted boot.ini. Scroll to the bottom of this page and try both fixes if necessary (Possible Fix by reconfiguring boot.ini using Recovery Console and One more suggestion from MVP Alex Nichol)
You can download the XP bootdisks from here Let us know the outcome. |

Unfortunately, its going from bad to worse hurleyun999. A corrupt Hal usually requires a reinstallation. I am not aware of another solution.

what do you mean by reinstallation because if i can somehow reinstall any form of windows to get this pc working that would be great. the saved info on the harddrive is of no importance to me

You will need the restore disks hurleyun999 for your model but if you give Hewlett Packard a call, they should be able to provide you with them but they will probably charge a fee for doing so.

will these disks likely fix it or could there be a potential hardware problem because i know how delicate laptops can be~thanx

The disks will restore the operating system providing there are no hardware problems. At this stage there is no way of knowing what the issue is. If I were you, I would take it to my local HP agent and ask for a quote to repair it. As you say, laptops are just a bit more complex.
