XP recovery disks
The dilemma is my son's PC had XP SP2 and for someone it crashed. On restart it would get to windows corporation and then continue to restart over and over again. I had bought a Home Edition XP system. I thought it may solve the problem to see whether his PC would accept it.
The new OS partially reinstalled but said it had errors and that is exactly where it is at as it will not let me shut down. Even by holding the start button to turn it off and then press it restart it goes back to new XP. Is there anything I can do? I just do not want to buy recovery disks if they are unable to revert it back to the original factory default. I hope this makes sense! Thank you. Ruth |

Are you trying to use the disk that came with your computer or is that a Windows Home Retail version that is not installed on any computer?

Thank you for replying so fast.
It was Windows Home Retail but not used on any other PC, it has its own Product Key, it is genuine. I bought it a long time ago but decided in the end the computer it was intended for was basicallly ready to be 'put down'. So I ditched it. The PC's own recovery disks I made I cannot find. Ruth |

Here is how to do a clean install of windows.. http://web.mit.edu/ist/products/winx...ll-format.html
As long as your XP disk is not an upgrade version this should work without a problem. You may want to print the directions out. If this is what you have already done let us know.. |

If you need the drivers or would like the oem recovery disks, of your sons computer, simplly go to the manufacture site of your sons computer there you can download the drivers. You can also call them and request the recovery disks if you still want them. They maybe free, they may not be. HP sent my sisters her's for free when I was unable to create the recovery cd's for her computer.

Drivers
![]() All looked good. Under Device Manager it has 'other devices' with a yellow question mark. Basically multimedia audio controller, SM Bus Controller and Video Conroller (VGA). Initially I right clicked on each under' update drivers' which failed to work, even with the XP disc as well trying to search for them. I went to my son's manufacturer which is hp. The drivers were not there for his PC so really do not know what the next step. Please try and help before I go totally insane! Ruth |

I did try the hp site. I downloaded realtek, it got rid of 2 but the video controller (VGA) still remained. Any ideas why?
thanks Ruth |
