have you tried an online scan.. here just to eliminate nasties
While you are doing that ill research and ask a 98 expert... i believe windows 98 has a reg checker.. use that as well Last edited by black mirror; June 4th, 2006 at 03:23 PM. |

Obviously all those programs are not corrupt. Your "Windows Installer" may be the corrupt program.
HERE is the latest Windows Installer for 98: Scroll down and download and run: InstMsiA.exe Same program Black Mirror was asking you to try, but this one is from MS site and should work. Also you indicated "had an infection but manually got rid of it so might be some infection left" Did this all start after the "infection" how did you get rid of the infection? Was it a Virus" or Spyware? |

I think it was a virus when i downloaded some stuff which left files which i then deleted and it seemed to be working, and it started after the infection too
When i install Instmsia it says that i already have it?? |

The next step is to run a system repair.
Go to START | RUN then type in sfc (hit <OK>) It may ask for your "98" CD. After it is done reboot and try installing again. |
