Duplicate Emails In Inbox Due to Reinstall

Hi,

Due to a persistent virus, we wiped the system and reinstalled Win Vista. Verizon FiOS has a feature that when Windows Mail is reinstalled (as part of the Vista reinstallation) all the old emails appeared in the Inbox. Unfortunately, it did this 3 times so we now have 3 copies of every email in the Inbox totaling over 11,000 emails.

Is there any program that's safe to use to get rid of these duplicate emails? Some I looked at had tons of ads and I had to use system restore to get them out of my computer.

I don't know of any program that will do as you wish.

Consider deleting all e-mails in your inbox, then downloading them again.

I thought of that, but how would I d/l them? I didn't have them on a flashdrive. They just appeared after I reinstalled Vista. I think Verizon had them stored on its server. The only thing I could think of to do would be do reinstall Vista and I don't want to go through that again.

check

Tools - Accounts - Mail Section. Any chance you have the same account listed more than once?

Nope, just 1 account. I think I may just have to live with it or manually delete them. Even Verizon doesn't know how to get rid of them. Thankfully, it's only those emails stored on Verizon's server that reappeared when I reinstalled Vista.

there are utilities out there that can help but the ones I found are not free. you can do a search using "duplicate email windows mail" as keywords and see if there are any worth considering. I cannot make any recommendations on this.

Email sits on the Verizon server a set number of days, which you can in your account settings have them deleted from their server once you download them.

I would go into your Verizon email using their webmail through your browser.
Delete the emails you don't want. Then uninstall Windows mail, reinstall it and those emails will be gone.
