If you are not sure on how to begin, I would first recommend looking up some prebuilt computers that are sold at places like newegg or Best Buy. If you can go to a electronic store and get comfortable with a specific PC, then you will have a general understanding of what you are looking for. You don't need to know everything about every computer, just know everything about the one you have in mind.

After that you can look up the specs on the computer and build from there. If you are going to be doing video editing deff look for an OS that can support more than 4GB of memory. Go with a Motherboard that can support a 64-bit OS. Also go for something that had more than 1 core. Each motherboard is different so always go off the specs from the motherboard when looking for Chassis (atx and mini atx are still the most popular), RAM, CPU chip, power supply, etc.

You will also want a graphics card if you are going do video editing. It will take some load off the CPU if you are multi-tasking and some video cards come with HDMI outs so you can connect your PC straight to your TV and stream video that way.

Also can't forget about the power supply! Make sure that you get one that is at least 450w. You want to get something with more wattage if you are looking to add more devices or cards into the computer.

Everything else, it's all you, what type of wireless card for internet, audio card, card reader, all of the fun stuff. These are all just extras that aren't needed but it's not everyday that you build yourself a computer? So why not go with all the upgrades?

If you have any more questions, let me know!
