I finally figured it out. Control Panel>Tools>Folder Options>File Types.
Just clicked 'New'>file type 'dat'> Associate 'New'.

I tried disabling Norton Auto Protect and defragmentiing to see if that would help to no avail.

Anyone have an ideas...it's been doing this for a while now so I can't really pin down any programs...

At the command prompt, type; netstat -a

...that will list all active connections and listening ports. Just type netstat for additional options.

I'm not positive, but I don't think you can use the WordPerfect spell checker for OE since it's not an MS product. I'd like to know though if you do.
