Does this help?

Work your way to the Control panel and find the section called Taskbar and Start Menu. Hit the Start Menu tab and hit Customize (Make sure there's a tick in the Start Menu section)...

Go to Start > Administrative tools > Services. Scroll down to Windows Audio and make sure it's running. If not, right-click and select Start.
