I'm thinking the OP's video is of the on board graphics variety. If that is the case, it is probably only cooled by a passive heat sink which maybe clogged up with dust causing the heat issues.....

Sounds like the usb drive itself is the problem. If you can try it on a few other machines and see if it will work. It if don't work on other machines then there is likely a problem with the drive.

It's a shot in the dark but I believe that if you can get to a command prompt (recovery console would be better) and use these two commands: FIXMBR and FIXBOOT it might take care of your problem.
