I unchecked those preferences and then re-check,(enabled) them. Now it does work except for .gif's and .jpeg's. Why don't those work? Thanks so much for all your help. Regards, greg.

I have XP os, and when I hover my mouse over a file, I get some basic info about the file. For example;
If I have a jpg on my desktop and hover my mouse curser over it, I’ll get some basic info...
