Further to my message above I changed the jumper...

Further to my message above I changed the jumper settings on xp hdd to 'cable select' and the 98se hdd to slave which has now booted up xp fine and has recognised the second hdd. Thanks 72Montecarlo...

Thanks for responding.. Right, after much fiddling around, i moved the jumpers, still had the problem though... I tried swapping hdd's ie making 2nd hdd master and 1st hdd slave... that booted up ok...
