His Vaio has a gig of ram in it. (maxed out) I have tried installing Vista a few times in it and all it does is lock up. I got rid of the errors it was giving while installing but just locks up now....

Not sure why the icon wouldn't disappear after uninstallation. If right clicking and then deleting the icon don't work maybe try refreshing the desktop. Make sure you restart after uninstalling.
