BSOD is a good thing, atleast it tells you why its crashing. I would say she needs to write any error codes and filenames down and post those error message and codes/filenames here.

Open msconfig and disable all the junk that starts at system start-up and run a spy sweeper of some kind. The crackling might be from something stealing processor priority from the audio, same for IE...

Press WinKey + Pause -> Advanced Tabbed ->...

Press WinKey + Pause -> Advanced Tabbed -> Settings (under startup and recovery) -> uncheck automatically restart.

This might give you a screen with a dll name or some hint next time it happens

Sorry, read it too fast.
There is that annoying beep through the system speaker (not your external speakers) when you get a system prompt or such. My brothers comp has been doing this for months...

If it works in the back ports I wouldnt think it would be a driver problem then, thats kinda weird. Do other devices work in the front/side ports? Or could there be a crossed connection to the mobo?
