Win 7 64 bit slow modem speed.
I recently installed win 10 on my desktop computer,it did not install properly so I went back to win 7 64 bit. Now with win7 64 bit my modem speed is reduced to .01 from 50. I went back to win 10 64 and got it up and running fine with normal internet speed. After a couple weeks use I found I hated win 10. Re installed win7 64 bit and same issue, super slow internet speed. I did 6 installs all with same results. I'm running an MSI motherboard Z170A. Could this be the issue that the M/B is screwed up. I tried to see if MSI has a new driver upgrade but the support was so bad I did not get any where. I tried bypassing the onboard ethernet card with a wifi connection, with no luck. Then I installed an ethernet card on motherboard with no luck. My service provided sent me a new modem and still no speed on my comp with win 7. Can anybody tell my why I can't run win 7 on this comp anymore?

Welcome to CTH kellyxxx,
Can't be problems with your network adapter since it works in Windows 10. What you really need to run Is the Windows 7 update, which will probably provide the right driver for the network adapter. It may actually take it a day at slow speeds, but will probably solve your problem. |
After I install win 7 I have to run the M/B cd which has all the drivers for the onboard hardware. Internet sound and 3.0 usb slots. would the download have something that could resolve my issue? I can only go online after the cd install.

your win7 is still out of date unless you ran all the updates.
|
Ya there is no way I can update over 300 meg at dial up speed. This never happened before, everything ran 100%. Now there is no way to use win 7 again. For 3 years everything was fine then out of the blue win 7 won't work anymore. Has to be a motherboard issue, when I replace the drive with the drive with win 10 everything work fine.:curse:
|
If it were a motherboard issue then it would probably affect Win 10 also.
|
Yes I was thinking the same thing. No idea where to go from here.
|
I’m not near my computer right now, but later tonight I’ll boot into Win 7, and try to figure out what could be causing your problem.
|
long shot, any chance you hit a data cap by your isp? anyway, you can manually download the updates on another computer and install later.

You might want to boot into Win 10, and then download the drivers for your motherboard from here. Make sure you choose either Win 7 64 bit or Win 7 32 bit. You can then copy the drivers to a flash drive, and then boot into Win to install them.

I got the new drivers from there already. I asked them for help and was told your win 10 works fine forget win 7. I will never buy another product from them.
|
Did you try the LAN drivers from MSI's website?
|
Yes I did. All the drivers that came on disk I upgraded from that site. What I don't understand is the drivers that came on the M/B cd worked fine for years. I could understand new drivers not working, but not the original drivers.
Now here is an odd thing, sometimes when I boot up the win 7 drive I may get a bit faster download. I can go from .05 to speed 16 and back to super slow next time I try that drive. Never noticed that before. This is with the old drivers. |
I would suggest keep doing Windows updates until they give you the right driver.
|
1. The drivers on the CD are OLD and outdated
2. Win 10 is so much better than Win 7, it is more secure 3. Win 7 is no longer supported, although one of the best O/S MS put out, you can no longer get security updates 4. What was it about Win 10 you didn't like? You can make Win 10 look just like Win 7 https://winaero.com/blog/get-windows...or-windows-10/ 5. Internet speed has nothing to due with the motherboard, as said a motherboard issue would be the same in Win 10 as Win 7 6. Internet speed is dependent on several factors;
MSI site list the latest Lan driver as version 1.1.65.1138 2017-01-03 for Windows 10 https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/suppo...ver&Win10%2064 It also list the same driver for Windows 7 Have you tried this driver? You indicated you got the latest drivers from MSI? |
