Installing Updates - Security Updates Failed
 

hey guys,
i have been trying to fix this problem for a long time. and it nerver works what ever i try. for the past months when i download the updates the same ones fail and it didnt tell me why. here they are:
Downloading Security Update for Windows XP (KB925902) (update 1 of 6)... failed!
Downloading Security Update for Windows XP (KB931784) (update 2 of 6)... failed!
Downloading Security Update for Windows XP (KB930178) (update 3 of 6)... failed!
Downloading Security Update for Windows XP (KB931261) (update 4 of 6)... failed!
Downloading Security Update for Windows XP (KB932168) (update 5 of 6)... failed!

What does that mean and does anyone know how to fix it?

Are you using auto update or manual..oh yeh and is it a legal copy of windows

yes im using a legal copy of windows and im doing auto updates.

Go to the Windows Update website. When the page fully loads, click on "Review your update history" under Options in the left sidebar. Scroll (if necessary) to locate the items that have "Failed" in the Status column. Click on the Failed icon, and you should receive an Installation Failure popup window. Take note of the Error Code for each failed item and post back here with the error code(s).

Error Code: 0x80070003

they all say that is the error code

I never have this problem since i started using XP few years ago until recently i formated my pc and reinstalled my XP..

So then i was looking for the fix, and i am so glad i found this, it works for me so hope it works for you too..

Basically what you need to do is create a bat file.

Cut and paste the below lines into notepad:

regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll

Now click on File
Click on Save As
(dialogue box appears)
At the bottom do the drop down in Save as Type as ALL FILES

In File Name box name it Winupdatefix.bat
Save it to location that you prefer.

it will appear as a ms-dos batch file.

Double click is to run it , and just press 'OK' for all the dialouges, for some DLLs, it wil says seomthing like missing a file or cannot re-register don't worry, just press 'OK' .. Note: initpki.dll will seem to hang, it just takes less than a minute comapred to the others (that are almost instant).

Restart computer (optional)

does this Winupdatefix.bat solution work ? what is this process gonna do ?

i am not too sure what does it too.., but it works for me.. Maybe if fixes Win update DLLs that got errors or missing? :dizzy:

Er.., weird, i didn't perform Windows Restore.., as i do not have any restore point seems i had just reformatted my OS.. I had this problem after reinstalled my XP... :hmm:

Anyhow, i am glad it works for me though.. :)
