CD/DVD Drive not recognized

Hi

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 17 on Windows 10. CD/DVD drive used to work, but I haven't used it for a long time.

I wanted to view a DVD today--No Joy. The ODD is recognized on the BIOS Main Page but nothing at all on Windows Explorer. I've tried all the standard fixes (except Dell Troubleshooting which I can't get to work either). I've uninstalled/reinstalled the CD/DVD drive and the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers on Device manager.

The drive makes all the usual noises when I open/close the tray, but it's simply not being found.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Did you try too get Windows to auto detect and install the Drivers for you?
Quote:

Boot to the Windows 10 desktop, then launch Device Manager by pressing Windows key + X and clicking Device Manager.
Expand DVD/CD-ROM drives, right-click the optical drive listed, then click Uninstall.
Exit Device Manager then restart your computer.
Windows 10 will detect the drive, then reinstall it.
If that fails.
Re-check the cables going to the drive.
If you have kinks in the cable, it may have a break in it.
Replace the cable with a new one.
Still no joy?
Then it is possible the laser has failed in the drive itself.
Replace the Drive.
