HELP. Kmode exception not handled..... what is this??

i don't know much about computers....
I have a toshiba notebook, pentium 3, running windows 2k

bought an Asus 5224a Cd writer a few months ago. It was running fine, but about a week ago it started to go a bit crazy. When i switch it on, i get a blue error message on my screen saying "kmode exception not handled" and a load of other stuff that i don't understand.

Can someone please help me out and tell me how to fix this problem. Thanks very much.....

Hi

"kmode exception not handled" the 'other stuff' that comes with this report is very important in helping us help you.

It looks like your registry has become corrupt (best guess). Have you tried booting into safe mode screen F8 - and using 'Last known good' settings?

HTH - Peace
