Vista blue screen then repair app

Hi All,
I am at my Sis in laws Vista machine which fails to start then runs the "repair" app then requests I do a "restore" So ten to twenty minutes to get to the user interface.
I hunted down the "minidump" file the crash created but did not include it here as there is not much human readable text on it. Anyone know what may be occurring??
The response from the MS online diagnostics suggested that it may be a hardware or software problem so I am in the clear this time...:)

You need to establish that it's not maybe a failing hard drive before looking elsewhere.
You can test the drive with Seagate SeaTools for DOS which runs from a bootable CD.
Get it here: http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...00dd04090aRCRD

The download is an ISO file from which you can make a CD using IMGBurn or something similar. IMGBurn is here: http://filehippo.com/download_imgburn/

When you've made the CD, boot Sis-in-law's PC from it to test the drive. Use the "long" test for accuracy, not the short test.

(Note: you can test any brand of hard drive with SeaTools, it doesn't have to be a Seagate drive).

Not good Pip22,
I did as you suggested but was unable to view the log file (unsupported video) or save the file (no floppy) However the machine has booted normally since I started the thread so I will just see what develops if anything..
