Laptop fails to load games and some programs

Hi everyone

I am currently experiencing some problems with my laptop. I tried to install a game yesterday (C&C 3). It installed but didn't give me a shortcut anywhere on my machine which i thought was odd. Anyway, i launched the game and it played the intro vid. As soon as it was done it loaded up the first map then crashed to desktop. I tried a few times, even uninstalled the program and reinstalled. Eventually i gave up firguring it was just incompatible (although i had tried running the prog in Compatibility Mode Xp-2) Well, after it was gone i tried to load another game which had previously played fine on the machine and it now only gets as far as the end of the loading screens before crashing the same way C&C did.

This morning i tried downloading a 'Shader' program as someone on these boards was advised to a while ago. I launched the program (Shader Mark) and it loaded through and then crashed.

I have tried looking through the solutions thing on windows but it says it hasn't got any solutions try later. The error message that appears doesn't hve a number, just says the program stopped working - close program.

Sorry this is so long winded but i couldn't think of how to make it shorter. The irritating thing is that programs that once worked fine, now don't. I also tried restoring the system using System Restore, but it didn't help.

Hope someone can help. Thanks

Corran

1.7 Dual Core
1gb RAM
