.JPG / .JPEG Question

Hi All,

What is the difference between a .jpg & a .jpeg?

TonyKlein March 28th, 2003 10:34 PM

They're the same file type, really. No difference whatsoever.

2337lover March 28th, 2003 10:46 PM

That's weird. Why the 2 extensions for the same type of file?

Theoran March 28th, 2003 10:52 PM

JPG uses the internal compression algorithm of the JPEG format.

I see. Thanks.

Operating Systems used to have a 8.3 file name method.

You can see this if you use DOS.
So extensions such as JPEG had to be shortened to jpg.
