Windows xp installation error.... cant access files

I tried to reinstall windows xp without deleting my data so I chose use existing folder when installing... and i chose the folder that contained my old windows xp 3 stuff... figuring it would rewrite it and everything would be the same except a downgrade and fresher xp... So I log in and its completely new so i figure i could just copy all my files from the old accounts folder to the new one but it comes up with an error saying its either restricted or access is denied (i did have a password on it)... All my old files are in there but i can't get to them... and it says 0 bytes on the folder so its like my computer cant even get that info... Is their a way to make it boot up again from that folder so it just switches or some way to fix it... Help would be very much appreciated.. thanks

Howdy:

The "Repair" option is the way you should have gone.

Try THIS

Unfortunately, we cannot help you in hacking/cracking the password for your old files nor will any other reputable help site.

Your best option now would be to bite the bullet, run a complete re-install formatting the entire hdd and starting over.
