I close programs but process doesn't close

When I close a program, for example: MSN Messenger, IE, Last.FM, Warcraft 3, the program closes as normal. But since some days I was experiencing really slow computer, so I open the Task Manager and I see the process of all programs I closed before there... As if they were running... Which affects the 'performance' and uses a lot of RAM.

Are you sure that you have completely removed them from memory?
They will run in the background, and will be visible in the system tray, if you notice.
To completely remove them from the memory, go to the program in the system,
for eg. MSN Messenger and right-click on the icon and select, "Exit".

Can you see Warcraft running after you close it :S?

Yes, I close MSN Messenger that way and still runs in the background. Warcraft 3 too.

That's interesting.
Does it stay in memory until you shutdown the PC? Or does it get terminated after sometime?

It could be that you are using too much of RAM and the computer might be taking a long time to terminate the closed applications.

No, it only closes when I shut down the PC.
It happens when I dont even use 5% of my RAM...

Hello?

Cyber Punk March 24th, 2008 06:49 PM

Sorry for missing out your thread.
It could be a problem related to malware.
Open task manager and check if svchost.exe is using up a lot of memory.
If it is, then there's a very good chance that you are infected.

How much is too much?

That seems to be fine, however, I recommend that you submit a HijackThis log here for the experts to check.

Please start a new topic under Cyber Safety because they might miss this one out.

What is that Process 4th up from the bottom? It is using 94% of your CPU.
