Tab key stops working on windows 10

About once a day the tab key stops working on my usb keyboard and my laptop keyboard. So its not the keyboard it has to be a W10 issue I believe. After a reboot the tab starts working on both keyboards. Any ideas what might be causing the issue.

Hi, as a workaround you can try pressing Alt + Alt , then try Tab. For a fix press the win + x keys together, select device manager. Expand keyboard and right click on the driver select update driver.

Use the Browse computer option, next select Let me pick from a list of available..... Next make sure a check is in "show compatible hardware" select the first one from the list in the box below, press next. Windows will install the driver, restart computer and see how you go.

Tab is not available in all programs so it may or may not be an operating system issue.

If you go to Start and type start typing in: on-screen keyboard, then click on that when it appears, does Tab work when you use that?

Have you scanned for malware? Is that the only key affected?

Thanks, I have not scanned for malware but I will. The user is usually in excel when they notice the tab key not working

Well, the tab key should move you to the cell in the next column in Excel (at least it does for me, just as shift/tab moves me back 1 cell. But it sure needs to be verified this issue appears everywhere, not just Excel in order to help narrow down the problem.
