Spellbound

http://spellbound.sourceforge.net/index

Spell checker for the Firefox browser, that allows you to check the spelling for any text that you have typed into a web form or text area. Just right click in the form or select the text to be checked, and a dialog will mark misspelled words and automatically suggest replacements.

I've got loads of favourites but I'll just mention a few!

Tab Browser Preferences. This extension adds GUI options to change some of the hidden tab browser preferences available in Firefox. It additonally provides the following features:

- open URLs in the URL bar and searches from the search bar in new tabs
- open the homepage in every newly created tab
- select tabs by moving the mouse onto them, instead of clicking on them
- moving the tabbar to the bottom of the browser window
- opening URLs from the Extension/Theme Manager and the Help window in new tabs
- opening the throbber URL in a new tab
- controlling the focusing/unfocusing of various tab-creating commands, such as File->New Tab

Tab Mix is a new one which can offer quite a lot of tab functions which the bulky Tab Browser Extensions usually cover.

Ad Block. Does what it says on the tin!!

If you like RSS feeds there are a few good extensions like Habari Xenu, Sage, Wizz Rss or if you like a ticker tape style, InfoRSS.

Bookmark Backup. A Must.

MozBackup. Whilst not a Firefox extension it's a must have for me. When you download this, you can back up your profiles in Firefox, Thunderbird and the Mozilla Suite.

Bookmarks Menu Button is another relatively new extension which enables you to access your bookmarks by adding a button on a toolbar instead of via the bookmarks toolbar or sidebar.

Session Saver will save and restore tab sessions including crashes or you can just use the lite version of Crash Recovery.

Menu Editor allows you to hide and/or arrange items in the Tools drop down menu and the right click context menu.

Autofill saves you form filling the same old stuff over and over.

The Reload Every extension allows you to reload your tabs at set intervals from seconds to minutes.

That'll do for now, I'm sure this will be a busy thread!

Cheers

So many good ones... these are my favorites.

http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/webdeveloper
The Web Developer extension adds a menu and a toolbar to the browser with various web developer tools. View and edit CSS, show image info, lots more. If you do any kind of web design work this will be your favorite extension. Will find/open all inline and css files to satisfy your curiosity about how something's done. Also includes validation tools for local and web files.

http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/ieview
IE View. Adds "View page in Internet Explorer" links to the content and link context menu. Handy for previewing pages in IE, loading up IE-only pages when you run across them in Mozilla, etc.

http://extensionroom.mozdev.org/more-info/firefoxview
FirefoxView. Open Firefox with the current page or a selected link displayed in Internet Explorer. Adds "View in Firefox" menu items to the content and link context menus. Useful when you have started your browsing session in Internet Explorer by mistake.

http://gemal.dk/mozilla/launchy.html
Launchy will enable you to open current page, links, mailto, images and view source with external applications. Browsers, media players, FTP clients, download managers and editors are supported. That's applications like Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla, Outlook, BSPlayer, Windows Media Player, GetRight and others.

Some extensions that provide privacy protection:-

Add N Edit Cookies. - Cookie Editor that allows you add and edit session and saved cookies.

Cookie Button - A Firefox Toolbar button that allows easy access to the cookie permissions of the site currently being viewed. This can be used to whitelist sites by disabling cookies and then use this button to set exceptions.

Cookie Toggle - Creates a simple toolbar button that controls cookie behavior (on or off). The extension also remembers whether cookies are only allowed from the originating site.

Cookie Culler - CookieCuller is a modified Cookie Manager which allows you to protect cookies you want to keep and quickly delete the rest.

'X' extension - x adds a toolbar button from which you can quickly clear privacy sensitive data, specifically: history, form info, saved passwords, download history, cookies, and the cache (both disk and in memory cache).

X Kiosk - xKiosk provides a toolbar button (which you can place wherever you wish via View > Toolbars > Customize... - it's labelled "Paranoia") from which you can quickly clear privacy sensitive data, specifically: history, form info, saved passwords, download history, cookies, and the cache (both disk and in memory cache). When you click the button you are asked to confirm the action, after which all the data is cleared. It is expected that this could be useful in web kiosks (hence the name).

Password Scrambler - Password Scrambler is a browser add-on that allows you to automatically generate secure, hard-to-guess passwords for every site you visit, based on a master password of your choice. It achieves this by uniquely "scrambling" your password for every site you visit. Password Scrambler helps you address problems related to using the same password in multiple sites, a practice that results in security vulnerabilities.

The Cleaner - This extension allows you to clean any of the following:
- History
- Saved Form Information
- Saved Passwords
- Download Manager History
- Cookies
- Cache
- Address Bar

The cleaning can be done via any of the following:
- Toolbar Button
- Statusbar Button
- Context Menu Entry

A confirmation box can be optionally displayed before any cleaning is done.

A few more to mull over!

Cheers

One extension I find really useful is Bookmarks Synchronizer. Now I have the bookmarks I add at home or work at both places.

Bookmarks Synchronizer (FTP) by Torisugari

Bookmarks Synchronizer is a Mozilla Firefox extension that let you connect to an FTP server and synchronize your bookmarks that are stored in an XML file. Setup is easy; just write in your FTP server address, username, password and a name for the XML file (by default called xbel.xml). To start, press Upload to create the file on the server and set if you want to automatically download the file on startup or upload it when you close your browser.

This extension gives back most editing functions with Hotmail and Yahoo:

The Image Toolbar extension pretty much is a clone of IE6:

Statusbar Clock is self explanatory. (I like it since I use auto-hide in Windows):

Chrome Edit is for those who want to tweak user files:

There is a Google Suggest search engine you can add:-

You install the search engine and then the extension and voila! Go here and follow instructions if you like it.

Tweak Network.
https://addons.update.mozilla.org/ex...Windows&id=327
Web pages seem to load a tad faster with the 'power' option and am also on a cable connection. Would be interesting if dialup users benefit from this.

Easy Navigation....

Hey all,

I really like: All-in-One Gestures 0.12.4. It's one of the "standard" downloads from the firefox extensions page. "This extension allows you to execute common commands using mouse gestures, rocker navigation, scroll wheel navigation and page scrolling."

In a nut shell, you hold down the left mouse button, and then move the mouse about an inch or so in a defined direction/pattern (from simple to ELABORATE) and it executes a command. Having it set to forward and back saves a lot of time when surfing feverishly. I found that my favorite setup is:

Left: Back
Right: Forward
Up: New Window
Down: Reload

Hope this helps,

Matt!
