Attention Spammers

We are tired of all the Spammers, posting useless stuff. This is a computer help forum not a place to post crap about world affairs, music, things in the news, blah blah blah. If it isn't computer related and posted in one of the computer forums, your post will be removed immediately. You will also be banned from this forum. Take note; there are other forums to post that crap, go there. If this is all you have to do, then suggest you find another hobby.

Thanks for that Murf.
I'm about ready to quit reading, and posting here, because of all that crap.

I bet the bots will not pay attention to the warning :-) At least it is easy to know which is spam and which is help by the title of the post.

Really?
Sure, most of the Chinese bots we are inundated with at the moment are easy to spot (we're actually blocking a lot of them as they register, before they even post the spam) but there's still a lot of subtle stuff getting through, some of which is performed by humans rather that bots.

Mishy has blocked several Chinese IP ranges to try and reduce the flow but at the moment, I must admit it feels like we are fighting a losing battle.

That might help :) Translated to Chinese :D

I agree with Zip. :D
I just don't understand how another computer help forum whose name begins with B, and gets much more action than this one seems to be able to control spam. I'm not a member there, but I do read some of the posts, and I've never seen a spam post there.

Can't adding links to posts be turned off for new members, until they've reached so many posts?

IPR512 June 13th, 2015 06:05 PM

Something definitely needs to be done, because it's at the point where there are at least twenty five of the damn things posted every hour. This forum is beginning to look like it's been abandoned except for spammers.
It's going to come to a point where the paying subscribers here are going to get disgusted, and leave.

renegade600 June 13th, 2015 08:47 PM

looks like this thread has created a backlash...

smurfy June 13th, 2015 11:42 PM

No, I just went on strike for 24 hours to give you some idea how much work we are doing to keep that **** off the forums.

Hi

The mods are doing their very best against an often unimaginable quantity of this spam crap.

I have, along with the mods, instigated some further spam protection methods and we will be checking and acting more aggressively than ever to stop this.

Thanks for your patience.

IPR512 June 14th, 2015 02:27 PM

Thanks MishY.

Maybe that forum uses a different form software, one that has better spam features/modifications.

sorry but a bit late to reply. you also have to consider the number of active moderators between the two forums. This one does not seem to have that many any more so there is not someone around the clock that can monitor spam as the others.

It would be nice if there was better software that could be used here so Smurfy wouldn't have to stay up all night guarding the place. :D
