Unhappy Fixed Disk not present

Hi
I have a older sony laptop one day "no operating system found"
was all i got.
ran some boot tools and they could not find hdd. bios is not finding my hard drive change hdd drive and same thing. System Recovery CD at Welcome i go cancel, at A: ran fdisk Reports error fix disk not present
is there a way to check the hard ware for problems to resolve this issue.

you should look in bios settings (f1, f2 or del)
and see if the IDE controller is enabled

fist and second IDE adapter are on auto
no IDE controller

both desk top computer list HDD ID# in Bios Boot
not the laptop

so the hdd works on desktops, but not the laptop?

wrong wording did not try laptop HDD on desk top, the desk top HDD show up with serial # in bios on desk top.
