Odd Phenomenon

I have this 6800GT which was working fine
I put it in an anti-static bubble wrap bag in a box and left it there for pretty much 6 months
I took it out and it didn't work
Tried it in another comp, it didn't work
That's odd enough

I remember replacing some thermal paste on some device and it worked again
I tried it with the 6800GT
And it did work, don't know how long or how well, but it posted and video came out of it

Now... how does that work...?
replacing thermal paste magically fixing something

To replace the compound you have to get at the GPU top side.
All that wanking around may have reseated the GPU which may have "creeped/crept" out.

The hot and cold changes (off and on) can cause creeping in chips. It's definitely not a common occurrence
but it's a possible answer to your paste-magic fix.
