Having problems with Windows Media Player

Having a few issues with my father-in-law's desktop with Windows Media Player. It keeps giving the message to update, and then once you click ok, it seems to go thru with the process, but once it gets almost done with it, it throws another message up saying that WMP is already up to date, then closes out and restarts the pc. He has uninstalled it, and put WMP 11 in it twice. It did the same identical thing, and then he rolled it back to 9. And when you go to the Media Library, or the Radio Tuner, it comes up with one of the following error mesages:

Windows Media Player cannot play any items in this playlist. For additional information, right-click an item that cannot be played, and then click Error Details.

OR

The specified module could not be found.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated in helping to figure this problem out.

It might help if I can see what is running on his computer.

Tell him to go here and download DDS to his Desktop and doubleclick on DDS.scr to run it.

When the scan has finished, two logs will open. Ask him to save both and send them to you. Copy and paste both reports in this topic. The logs will be reasonably large so you may have to divide them into sections and make several posts to post them.

I'm still having a problem. I still need help with this issue and you never responded back to me on the last postings. Do I need to repost this somewhere else or can someone else help me out with it or is it something that can't be dealt with?
