Mac Super Slow After Upgrade to OS X

I recently upgraded my iMAC to OS X 10.6.8. It is now so slow it's almost unusable. Even typing this it sometimes goes "out to lunch" and I have to wait for the letters I am typing to show up.

My processor is 2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Memory is 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and I have over 200 GB free on my hard drive.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

How did you upgrade (the steps)?

Upgraded from what?

Have you rebooted? Repaired permissions?
