Hacked?

On 4/10/19 my email stopped in box messages at 5:47 pm & just before that, someone took over my email acct xxxxxxxxxx & pass word kathleen1 & now all those sites I can no longer access. I can still go to Thunderbird & copy the mail I still have before this happened & send mail, but not receive any. I got a new password from my provider Cox, it takes it, but doesn't download. Took it in to Outlook PC, they removed some virus, one I think was CSRSS.EXE, but were unable to fix it? Cox was unable to fix it? Their must be something wrong & I'm a little afraid with the first coming up with both our monthly checks coming to the bank, that the will get them? But I'm also worried you can't communicate with me, if can't receive any emails. I do have a gmail acct: xxxxxxxxxxx on another computer, but it's not a desktop. I could check that off/on to see if you respond?

Howdy CARLSEITZ,

I had to remove the email addresses from your post. Spammers look through forums collecting them.

It's actually pretty rare to get email hacked like you mention, though not impossible. So when you log in to your email website, you have the same there and Thunderbird?

But before we started doing scans, what I would suggest is you send me a PM with your email address and the password for cox.net you are currently using, so I can log in at my end and check things. You will have to promise to change your password after I have checked things though.

I'm 80 years old next month & recovering from a brain stem stroke from years ago, so I have a hard time understanding, but I will try. Give me a simpler explanation?

Yeah, I've had a stroke also. A pain in the behind. Right click on my jintan name above, and select send a private message to jintan. Then send me that private message.

I didn't receive a PM. Did you follow the steps to send me a private message?

I guess I messed up. I did send it to you by private message, but you said change the password right away. But not until you had a chance to look at the program, but I did it right away. But as it turns out, it takes you to my Cox Acct. page, not Thunderbird page. My Thunderbird goes directly to email page when I hit on Icon on tool bar. I think I remember what the password was.

Thanks Jintan, but but my out of town friend stopped in and fixed my problem and I'm all set! Some lady with a gmail acct had hacked my in bound mail. It happened to my next door neighbor too! Might have been the same person? Anyways, thanks for starting to help me! Good Luck & be Safe!
