Downgrade dx12 to dx11

I am having major issue with state of decay, a steam game I just bought not starting. Give's me an error saying dx11 not installed. I run dxdiag an I have dx12. I need a way to switch to 11. I have tried running the installer for dx11 that came with the game but dxdiag says I still have 12. I have down some searching online and can't find a way that works and many places say if I have dx12 I have 11 but the game disagrees. How can I downgrade or uninstall dx12 and switch to 11?

All systems with a higher directx version always run the lower directx versions AND BF4 should automatically run in DX 12, you can force it to run lower:

In start menu type dxcpl.exe

Find the entry for the game and make the changes.
