Black Screen

Hi guys,
I am starting a new thread with the same problem GrimReaper has but I am willing to wait for an answer, LOL.
I too can logon to Windows 8 but only get a black screen with the ability to move the mouse around. I can also open Task Manager and get to my windows explorer. Any ideas on what is causing this? I have restored it to an earlier time and the problem still exists. Once in a while I will see it has started completely but not by anything I have done. Weird...
Thanks
Cheri

Reboot and get to the login screen, hold down the "SHIFT" key and reboot should get to the advance boot menu.

Select Troubleshoot you can:

Refresh your PC (Basically reinstalls Windows 8) but leaves all your files, personalization settings in tact and all Windows Apps. But you would have to re-install any non-windows store programs.

Reset you PC basically brings it back to factory, you lose everything except what came with it.-Last Resort

Advance Options

System Restore
System Image Recovery
Startup Repair (which I would try first)
Command Prompt
Startup Settings
