Computer crashed suddenly.

I received an email with a file attached and like an idiot I didn't check it because I thought it was from a friend. Upon clicking it, my computer IMMEDIATELY shut off. Upon reboot, it said "Windows is loading files" and then proceeded to sit on the Windows repair screen saying it was searching for problems for the past hour now. After a few reboots, there's nothing I can do. Safe mode is inaccessible, and everything ends up back at the repair screen. Finally, it said it could not be repaired and made me shut it down.

What are my options and what has potentially happened here (specifically, I mean)?

Am I looking at a total loss of all of my data?

Hi Mektige. Try booting from your Windows 7 DVD and running System Restore. Choose a date before the problem occurred. See here for more help (it's the same procedure for Windows 7)
