Thank you Audacity

Any audacity experts out there?

I would like to record some streaming audio
of a known specific length.

What I want to do is to record this "in the background"

By that I mean:
I want to record this while I am doing other things
on the computer, such as watching a movie.
Only setup I understand is to record from the speakers with Audacity.

I want to have the Audacity shut off automatically
as soon as the play list is finished.

I want each track to be seperate, not all one track.
I know that there are supposedly settings to create a break when there is silence, but this is Not Working.

Is all this information out there?
yes, it is.

Buried in an AVALANCE of confusing
complex information.

When you want to do ONE THING, should
you have to learn how to do EVERYTHING?

When all you want to do is drive a car to new york,
should you have to learn how to build an Apollo Rocket
and fly it to the moon?

Thank you.

Not quite true, if you wish to learn how to steer a car you will also need to learn how to use the breaks in case there is an object in front of it that you cannot steer around, it may also help if you learn to start and stop the engine, put fuel in the tank and clean the windows.

However back to Audacity, I'm not sure that you can actually do what you wish, however a read of http://www.aosabook.org/en/audacity.html may give you some guidance.

I only use Audacity to manually record and edit music clips, unfortunately I took your approach and only learnt one use of the application, if I had applied myself and become an expert I possibly could have advised you how to do what you wish to do.

Have fun and if you do become an expert perhaps you can guide the rest of us how to do complex things.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy the music tracks you want rather than trying to record them from a steaming service "in the background" and maintain individual tracks?
