Re-installing vista help please

Hi.How do you reinstall windows vista?.Recovery cd not working.Didn't get a vista disc with the pc.The power went off while it was in destructive re-formatting mode-no operating system shows up in the repair directory box.Don't want to be trying to download some non genuine version.Done it dozens of times on my xp computer.Why does this seem to be so difficult?.Any advice would be welcome.Thankyou

Only two ways;

1. Recovery CD or Partition
2. Vista CD/DVD

When you boot does it give an option for recovery? As the recovery may be on a partition of the hard drive.
