Saving imap email locally

Hello everyone

Using Win 10 and Office 2019.. and I'm using IMAP for emails within Outlook.

What I would like to know is if there is a way to save emails (from the IMAP "inbox") locally; to the hard drive on my computer.. I only want to save locally some of the emails in the inbox, not the entire inbox.

I tried saving to a sub folder within the "Personal Folders" section (from the left hand side panel of Outlook), but this does not appear to save locally..

Hey Neal,

Long time no see. I'm not an Outlook person, and I'm on a phone right now so I can't provide any inks, but I Googled " Outlook save a message as a file" and landed on a Microsoft site that showed just how how to do that.

Create a folder within the "INBOX" folder and move the relevant emails you want into this new folder.

Now you can select to export that particular folder in the wizard. Click File "Open & Export" then "Import/Export. I use outlook 2010 so not sure of the labels in 2019. it could be:

File>Import and Export> Export to a file

Select Comma Separated Values (Windows), click Next again.

Chose the folder you want to export, click next yet again

Browse to the location you want to store the folder, give it a file name click Next once more finished.

Hi Guys

Many thanks for the replies..

Jintan - Yeap, sure is a long time (amazing how life keeps "getting in the way") ha ha ha

Murf - Thanks for the info, I'll give this a try when I get home at the weekend.

Best Regards

Not entirely successful

Hi Murf
I just wanted to get back to you on your reply to my question.

Yes, this gives me the "raw data" in an excel spreadsheet. But what I really need is to be able to view the email , exactly as I do when "online", even though I'm actually "offline"... (I hope this makes sense)..

I wasn't very explicit in my original post. So I will elaborate further.

What I'm trying to achieve is to be able to create a link in a report (this may be either word or excel), that when clicked on takes you straight to the relevant email (but to do this even when I am not "online").

.

Not sure if this will help, but here goes.
I use Office 2010 with Outlook for some of my e-mails. I bought a copy of Easeus Todo Backup Home, and it also can be used to backup Outlook e-mails separately from a complete hard drive backup.
You might want to have a look to see if they have a trial version to see if that will do what you want to do.

1. Open the email you want saved
2. Go to "FILE>Save As
3. Name the file and put it where you want it.

Now in Word or Excel create a link to the file by:

1. On the INSERT tab, click Hyperlink
2. Under Link to:
3. Existing file or web page
4. Find the file

That's it.
