failing connection
My computer runs smoothly on WinXP professional sp3 and performs all the work necessary for an old, lone man. But in the last weeks the Internet connection failed several times. I overcame this making “reset” – removing power for two-three minutes, but then complained to our LAN manager and he changed my router. Instead the Zyxel router which worked already several years he installed a very fashionably looking TP-LINK TD-W9970.
And – it didn’t help. In the last two weeks the connection failed again twice. Please advise – where can sit the bug and how to get rid of it. Thanks Yochanan |

See no one around idr. Normally connection failures is the ISP (Your internet Provider) and can be due to overload of their band width. Since you switched to the TP-LINK TD-W9970 and are still having the same problem it can be many things that cause it.
Is the router in the same room that you connect on your computer? If not is it a distance from where you connect, couple of walls between you and it? Does the router sit next to other electric equipment? Your Winsock file may be corrupt, to find out lets try this: If you have the Windows XP CD, insert it and locate the folder Support\Tools Double click the file Setup.exe
When the installation is complete, follow these steps;
If you do not have the XP CD then try this:
If the names are anything different from those in this list, the Winsock2 key is corrupted, or you have a third-party add-on, such as proxy software, installed. If you have a third-party add-on installed, the name of the add-on will replace the letters "MSAFD" in the list. If there are more than ten sections in the list, you have third-party additions installed. If there are fewer than ten sections, there is information missing. If it is determined that it is in fact corrupt to fix it: Get back to the command prompt and type the following: netsh winsock reset (hit <enter>) Restart the computer |

failing connection
Thank you Murf. In the last days I had no connection problems. The router sits very near the computer, btw it’s 9960 not 9970. But I have a partner to the router, on the other side of the wall, and very active with a laptop and smartophone. May be that the bug is there. Or can it be an overload of our LAN? Anyway it is not a great trouble as I don’t do any serious work any more.
Thanks again. idr |

If you are sharing the router, and the other connection to it is on the other side of the wall, but the router is on your side, his/her use should not affect yours.
Now having said that if your ISP (Internet Service Provided) just has too many customers for their equipment it can overload their bandwidth, particular at peak times, which can cause a temp loss of signal. Since yours is very Random, I would not suspect the equipment but rather a fault on the end of your ISP. May want to try this program: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/p/wi...ot:overviewtab The basic one is FREE |

failing connection
Thank you Murf, but the Wifi Analyzer works only with win10.
But never mind. there were no connection problems in the last days, and I add the matter to the long list of annoying problems of my age. idr |
