Just logging in to a different wifi network wouldn't do anything. But you need to post in the Windows 7 forum to let others here come up with ideas - this forum is limited to just Malware helpers.

On second thought, since you mentioned slowness with Word as well, your problem is sounding more and more like the wrong graphics driver, or maybe a ram issue. But I'm thinking the the wrong graphics...

For starters, reset Chrome (https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214?hl=en). Then be sure to turn off Chrome running apps in the background....
